How do I know whether Business Central is right for my business?

Microsoft Business Central is a comprehensive, customisable ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system with the level of functionality needed to meet the requirements of organisations with complex processes. Microsoft Business Central can be implemented on your own servers (on premise) or hosted ‘in the cloud’.

How much does Business Central Cost?

The exact cost is impossible to determine without knowing the specifications of your business.  It can be fairly inexpensive but it can also be quite expensive. There is a software portion that includes the licenses to Microsoft and for potential add-ons, and there is a consulting portion that includes tasks like training, configuration, data migration and development. There is also typically a large amount of work your internal people have to put into the implementation. How long does it take to implement Business Central?

Implementation varies depending on the requirements and modules. On average, it takes between 3 and 12 months.

Can Business Central handle multiple Companies?

Yes, you can create as many companies as you want in each database. Typically you should create a company per legal entity and maybe some consolidation companies. Companies within a database share the same functionality but the data is separated.

Does Business Central support multiple languages ?

Yes, Business Central is multi language. It typically comes in your local language(s) and English, and then you can download and install additional languages. Keep in mind that modifications and add-ons then have to be translated.

What is Customer Source and how can I access it?

Customer Source is a secured password protected site for all Microsoft Business Central customers engaged in the Business Ready Enhancement Plan or a service plan. It includes online training and documentation to help you improve efficiency. By being up-to-date with the latest updates, service packs, downloads, over 1,200 e-learning courses and accessible knowledge base (with articles and resolutions) you can reduce your support costs. In addition to this, you can also gain access to user groups and active communities.

Access to these resources is provided at no extra charge when you are enrolled in a Business Ready Enhancement Plan (BREP).

Why do I need to upgrade?

Every year you pay an annual maintenance fee (Enhancement Plan) to Microsoft, which is ideally 16% of your license value. Your investment on maintenance will become void if you are not upgrading your system.

With newer versions you get better integration with other business applications, additional features and enhancements which will improve performance.

Can I integrate other software with Business Central to meet specific business needs?

Microsoft Business Central is compatible and highly scalable with the technology that you already use, delivering value without high costs. However the Third-Party software needs to be reviewed and checked for compatibility.

How much will I be charged for support activities?

Availability – The total service time = the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) and the Mean Time to Resolve (MTTR).

Reliability Measured against Application malfunction / failure.

Maintainability – In IT, maintainability is how easy it is to isolate defects or their cause, correct defects or their cause, prevent unexpected breakdowns, meet new requirements, make future maintenance easier or cope with a changed environment, and maximize efficiency, reliability and safety.

Serviceability – The percentage of the application that can be recovered.

MTT Response – The average time elapsed between an incident reported and the assignment of such incidence.

MTT Resolve – The average time elapsed between an incident reported and the resolution of such incidence.

Is Business Central available in my country?

Business Central is available in a number of markets, but new countries are added through Microsoft-led localisation or through partner-led localisation on a quarterly basis.

Where is the save button?

There is no save button on pages like in other programs that you might be familiar with. In Business Central, changes that you make to a field are automatically saved as soon as you move to the next field or close the page, as long as there are no errors. When you make changes to a field and move to another field, you will see the text Saving in the top-right corner of the page, which will quickly change to Saved if no errors occur. If an error occurs, the text will change to Not Saved.
